Gold Book of Basic Indian History

As the title suggests, “Gold Book of Basic Indian History” is a short book consisting of elementary facts about Indian History and Culture.

The author of this book, Pranav Gaba says that this book is a concise and practical book to Indian History. It contains fundamental Indian history that every citizen of India should know about.

While I was in school, I noticed that most of the students do not focus over the subject of History much. Also, in younger classes, the subject does not provide enough content and students also tend to ignore the subject. As we move towards the senior classes, the subject suddenly becomes more in depth and focuses lesser on our own country. That is why, many students lose their interest in History.

In such a situation, most of us become ignorant and unaware of the history of our country. Therefore, this book is quite necessary for the citizens. A little bit of general awareness among the citizens about our past is extremely important for the nation to grow and develop. History teaches us to think, process and grow with the help of past experiences.

The facts are written in the form of short points and hence, make the book easier and more interesting to read. This book is not like the boring History textbooks and it will be enjoyed by many.

The book includes various sections. The book includes the rise of Buddhism and Jainism. Ancient History (from 5000 years ago), Medieval India (from Pre Mughal period to colonization by Britain), Contemporary India (starting from the revolt of 1857), and a little bit about the History of Southern India.

As I am not an expert from the field of history, I cannot comment on the credibility of the points mentioned in the book. But as far as general stuff is concerned, the book portrays the facts correctly.

It is to be noted that the book is not meant to be read as a textbook or a reference book. Its purpose is to increase the awareness of basic history of Indian Culture among Indians. Also, it is not to be used as a reference book for any sort of competitive exams.

As a conclusion, I would say the book comes as a simple, short, and effective collection of facts of Indian History which makes the subject of history much more interesting for the non historians and readers from other fields. So if you are just interested in a basic and fundamental history, this book is perfect for you.
